(WASHINGTON, DC) - Matt Howard’s put back as time expired gave the Butler Bulldogs a 60-58 win over Old Dominion in a second-round NCAA tournament game.
Shawn Vanzant was driving to the basket in the final seconds, slipped and threw the ball toward the basket.
Andrew Smith tipped the ball off the backboard and Howard put it an instant before the horn sounded.
Howard and Shelvin Mack led the Bulldogs with 15 points each with Smith adding eleven.
Frank Hassell was the only Monarch to reach double figures, scoring a game-high 20 points.
Butler advances to round three where they will face top-seeded Pittsburgh on Saturday.
