(PHOENIX, AZ) - Lance Berkman homered twice and Kyle McClellan did the job with both his arm and his bat as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-2.
McClellan allowed one run over six innings to pick up his first win of the season.
He also drove in a pair of runs with an RBI double in the third and a run-scoring single in the fourth.
Berkman started his onslaught in the seventh when he hit a solo homer off Sam Demel and followed that with a two-run shot off Juan Gutierrez in the ninth.
Jon Jay followed Berkman's blast with a pinch-hit solo homer off Gutierrez.
D-backs starter Barry Enright took the loss to fall to 0-1.
