Buehrle's Strong Effort Wasted As White Sox Fall In Extra Innings

Last updated on Tuesday, April 12, 2011

(CHICAGO, IL) - The Chicago White Sox wasted a stellar effort from Mark Buehrle, falling to the Oakland Athletics 2-1 in ten innings.

Buehrle allowed two hits over eight innings and was lifted with a 1-0 lead thanks to a solo home run from Brent Lillibridge in the fifth.

Matt Thornton came in to pitch the ninth and gave up a leadoff double to Andy LaRoche.

One out later, Juan Pierre dropped Daric Barton's fly ball to allow pinch-runner Cliff Pennington to score the tying run.

Kurt Suzuki, who broke up Buehrle's no-hit bid in the sixth, hit a two-out solo homer off Jesse Crain to put Oakland ahead.

Neither Buehrle or Oakland starter Dallas Braden figured in the decision.
