(NEW YORK, NY) - Purdue defensive end Ryan Kerrigan was taken with the 16th overall pick by the Washington Redskins in last night’s NFL draft.
The Big Ten defensive player of the year in 2010 led the conference in sacks and tackles for a loss last season.
He forced 14 fumbles during his career with the Boilermakers, a Big Ten record.
Kerrigan is the third Purdue player selected in the first round of the draft since 2007, joining Anthony Spencer and Dustin Keller with that distinction.
Kerrigan is the highest-drafted Boilermaker since Rod Woodson was selected by Pittsburgh with the tenth-overall pick in 1987.
