Reds Need Extra Innings To Get Past Padres

Last updated on Wednesday, April 13, 2011

(SAN DIEGO, CA) - Ryan Hanigan hit a go-ahead RBI double and Drew Stubbs hammered a three-run homer as the Cincinnati Reds scored six runs in the top of the eleventh to beat the San Diego Padres 8-2 in extra innings.

The game was a pitcher's duel between Reds starter Sam LeCure and Padres starter Clayton Richard. Both starters gave up an earned run and did not figure in the decision.

San Diego's Eric Patterson tied the game in the eighth with an RBI groundout.

The Reds got out of bases-loaded jams in the ninth and tenth before breaking through in the eleventh.

Padres reliever Cory Luebke got Joey Votto and Scott Rolen to fly out before giving up a single to Jonny Gomes.

Gomes scored on Hanigan's double with Chris Heisey and Edgar Renteria adding RBI singles.

Stubbs capped the big inning with his home run to center off Luebke.
