(CHICAGO, IL) - Alfonso Soriano homered and drove in two runs as the Chicago Cubs beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 in the opener of a three-game series at Wrigley Field.
Starter Randy Wells gave up a solo home run to Willie Bloomquist in the top of the first, but settled down to pitch six effective innings and pick up the win.
Soriano tied the game with his solo shot off Arizona starter Joe Saunders with Carlos Pena putting Chicago up for good with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Geovany Soto gave the Cubs some insurance with an RBI double in the eighth and scored on a single by Soriano.
