(SOUTH BEND, IN) - Notre Dame men’s basketball coach Mike Brey says he is staying with the Fighting Irish.
Brey was among several coaches whose names came up surrounding the vacancy at Maryland following last week's retirement of Gary Williams.
Brey was born in Maryland and played at DeMatha High School in the Washington, DC area.
Brey said Monday that he never interviewed for the Maryland job and that he never had a meeting to discuss the opening because he wants to stay in South Bend.
The Washington Post is reporting that Texas A & M's Mark Turgeon will be the new coach of the Terrapins.
Brey led the Irish to a 27--7 record last season and was named Big East Coach of the Year.
