(ST. LOUIS, MO) - Mike Stanton’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth proved to be the difference as the Florida Marlins took advantage of some sloppy St. Louis play to beat the Cardinals 8-7.
The Marlins scored six runs off Redbirds starter Chris Carpenter, but only two of those runs were earned as the Cardinals committed four errors in the game.
Ryan Theriot's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at six with no further scoring until Stanton's blast off reliever Eduardo Sanchez.
The Cardinals got one run back in the bottom of the ninth when pinch hitter Jon Jay hit a one-out solo homer off Leo Nunez.
Nunez then walked Albert Pujols but got Matt Holliday to ground into a game-ending double play.
