(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - As teams prepare for the start of practice for the Indianapolis 500 later this week, the Izod IndyCar Series unveiled prototypes of the new Dallara cars the series will use in 2012.
IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard was quick to point out that the cars on display were representations of what the final cars could look like.
The holdup is bodywork kits that would give the cars different appearances depending on which company a team buys its kits from.
IndyCar Series team owners want to delay the use of the kits until the 2013 season, primarily to save costs.
The kits run 75-thousand dollars apiece on top of the price of the new cars, which all teams will have to purchase for next season.
