(BALTIMORE, MD) - The Baltimore Orioles hit three home runs and strafed the Cincinnati Reds, 7-to-5.
The Reds were able to out-slug their interleague counterparts on Saturday, but failed yesterday to stifle an Orioles lineup that has taken batting practice off Cincinnati pitching all weekend.
Homer Bailey was down 1-to-nothing in the fourth inning, when Derrick Lee hit a line drive over the left field wall for a three-run home run. Two batters later, Mark Reynolds bolted a one-two pitch over the fence and into the bullpen for a 5-to-nothing lead. Bailey was relived after allowing five runs in five innings.
Brandon Phillips would get the Reds started with a solo home-run in the fifth inning to make it 5-to-1. An RBI single by Chris Heisey in the sixth inning seemed to get the Reds' offense rolling again. The Orioles bullpen helped out by issuing two bases loaded walks later in the sixth inning which cut the lead to one.
The Reds were down to their final three outs and trailed 7-to-4, when Ramon Hernandez added another home run to the series tally by launching a solo shot to left field.
Kevin Craig was able to convert his fourteenth save of the season and preserve the 7-to-5 lead for Baltimore.
The teams combined for sixteen home runs over the course of three games. The Reds finished 4-and-6 in their interleague standoff against the AL East.
