(ST. LOUIS, MO) - The St. Louis Cardinals regained sole possession of first place in the NL Central with a 3-1 win over the Houston Astros.
Albert Pujols gave St. Louis a 2-0 lead with his 23rd home run of the season and Jake Westbrook made it stand up.
Pujols' first-inning shot off Astros starter Brett Myers appeared to hit the top of the center field wall and umpires had to confirm by video replay that it had gone over the fence.
David Freese added a solo shot off Myers in the sixth. Westbrook lasted six innings, allowing an RBI single to Carlos Lee in the third as he improves to 9-4.
The Astros have lost five games in a row.
The Cardinals' win combined with Pittsburgh's loss in 19 innings to Atlanta gives the Redbirds a one-game lead over the Pirates in the central.
