(ST. LOUIS, MO) - Rookie Mark Hamilton’s infield single in the eighth scored Colby Rasmus with the game’s lone run as the St. Louis Cardinals blanked the Cincinnati Reds 1-0.
Chris Carpenter allowed six hits over eight innings to get the win and improve to 4-7.
Johnny Cueto allowed a run on six hits and was saddled with the loss, dropping to 5-3.
With the win, the Cardinals take over sole possession of first place in the NL Central by one game over Milwaukee as the Brewers blew a 6-1 lead to Arizona at home and fell to the Diamondbacks 8-6.
