(ST. LOUIS, MO) - Matt Holliday went deep twice with his three-run shot in the fifth blowing open a close game as the St. Louis Cardinals pulled away from the Cincinnati Reds to win 8-1.
Holliday and Lance Berkman hit solo homers in the bottom of the first off Reds starter Edinson Volquez.
Scott Rolen's RBI groundout in the fourth pulled Cincinnati to within a run at 2-1.
That was the score when Holliday hit his second home run of the night off Volquez.
The Cardinals added three more runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Mike Hamilton and a two-run double by Ryan Theriot.
St. Louis starter Jaime Garcia got the win to improve to 8-3 with Volquez taking the loss to fall to 5-4.
