(DAYTONA BEACH, FL) - The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifies this afternoon for tomorrow night’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
As was the case with February's Daytona 500, two-car drafts are the rage and that was indicated by teammates pairing off to take the top ten spots on the speed chart during Thursday's final practice.
Richard Petty Motorsports teammates Marcos Ambrose and AJ Allmendinger were fastest on the day and were the only drivers to turn laps in excess of 199 miles per hour.
Penske Racing's Kurt Busch and Brad Keselowski were third and fourth-quick, respectively, with Hendrick Motorsports teammates Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon turning in identical speeds to place fifth and sixth.
Richard Childress racing took spots seven through ten with Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick and Paul Menard.
Harvick is the defending July Daytona race winner and is second in points to Carl Edwards. Edwards was 21st on Thursday's speed chart.
