US Women Will Play Japan In World Cup Finals After Win Over France

(MOENCHENGLADBACH, GERMANY) - The United States Women’s Soccer Team advanced to the championship game of the FIFA World Cup with a 3-1 victory over France.

The Americans took the lead in the ninth minute when Indianapolis native Lauren Cheney scored. France tied the score in the 55th minute on a goal by Sonia Bompastor.

Team USA took the lead for good in the 79th minute when Cheney's corner kick found Abby Wambach who headed in the go-ahead goal.

Alex Morgan gave the Americans insurance with another goal three minutes later.

The United States is in the championship game for the first time since winning the World Cup in 1999.

They will face Japan in Sunday's final.
