(MILWAUKEE, WI) - The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a vital win for their foundering playoff hopes, edging the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1.
Edwin Jackson was the star of the night for the Redbirds, allowing a run on six hits in his seven innings of work as well as driving in St. Louis' first run with an RBI single in the fifth.
John Jay followed with a sacrifice fly in the fifth to score Rafael Furcal with what would prove to be the winning run.
Nyjer Morgan got the Brewers to within a run with an RBI double in the sixth, but would be it for the scoring.
Jackson moves to 11-9 on the season while Milwaukee starter Shaun Marcum takes the loss to fall to 11-5.
The second-place Cardinals trail the Brewers by nine and-a-half games in the NL Central.
