(ST. LOUIS, MO) - The St. Louis Cardinals snapped their three-game losing streak with an 8-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
David Freese hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth to put the Redbirds up for good at 5-4.
Matt Holliday broke the game open with a three-run home run in the eighth off Pirates reliever Tony Watson.
Albert Pujols added an RBI double with Lance Berkman and Skip Schumaker hitting run-scoring singles as St. Louis pulls nine and-a-half games behind idle Milwaukee in the battle for first place in the NL Central.
Garrett Jones had a two-run single for the Pirates.
