Colts Cut Former Ball State Quarterback Nate Davis

Last updated on Tuesday, August 16, 2011

(ANDERSON, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts were back at training camp in Anderson on Monday.

The Colts held their first practice since losing to the Rams 33-10 in Saturday night's preseason opener in St. Louis.

They will hold two full-squad practices today, one on Wednesday afternoon and one more on Thursday morning before breaking camp and moving operations south to Indianapolis.

The Colts open the home portion of their preseason schedule on Friday night when they face the Washington Redskins at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Receivers Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie did not practice after being dinged against the Rams.

Defensive back Joe Lefeged defensive lineman Tommie Harris and linebacker Adrian Moten were also sidelined Monday by injuries suffered in the preseason opener.

The Colts waived former Ball State quarterback Nate Davis on Monday.

Davis was signed as a free agent in July after spending the first three years of his NFL career with the San Francisco Forty-Niners.

Davis also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks last year, but has yet to take a snap in a regular season game.

He appeared briefly in Saturday night's game with St. Louis, completing 3-of-7 passes for 36 yards.

Davis left Ball State following his junior season after leading the cardinals to a 12-2 mark and a berth in the GMAC Bowl.

Veteran defensive end Tyler Brayton is expected to take Davis' spot on the roster.

The Indianapolis Star reports that Brayton has signed a one-year contract.

He was a first-round pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2003 out of Colorado and has been with the Carolina Panthers the past three seasons.

Brayton has started 92 games in an eight-year NFL career.
