(CHICAGO, IL) - Alfonso Soriano homered and randy wells pitched into the seventh as the Chicago Cubs snapped their three-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
The Cubs scored all three runs in the third when Soriano hit a two-run shot off Atlanta starter Derek Lowe and Wells added an RBI groundout.
The Braves got on the board in the seventh when Chipper Jones hit a solo homer off wells.
Alex Gonzalez concluded the scoring with a solo shot off reliever Kerry Wood in the eighth.
Wells allowed a run on two hits in his six and two-thirds innings to improve to 5-4.
Carlos Marmol pitched a perfect ninth to collect his 30th save of the year.
Lowe took the loss to fall to 8-12.
