(WASHINGTON, DC) - Jesus Flores hit his first home run of the season and Jonny Gomes delivered a key hit against his old team as the Washington Nationals beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-1.
Flores tagged a Bronson Arroyo pitch in the bottom of the fifth to give the Nats a 1-0 lead.
Gomes hit a two-run single off arroyo in the sixth to make it 3-0 Washington.
The Reds scored an unearned run in the seventh when pinch-hitter Fred Lewis reached on an error, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a Brandon Phillips groundout.
Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann pitched into the sixth inning, allowing no runs on six hits to improve to 8-10.
Arroyo takes the loss and falls to 7-10.
