(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback situation is more uncertain as starter Kerry Collins is being evaluated for concussion-like symptoms.
Collins left in the fourth quarter of the Colts' 23-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night.
He was replaced by Curtis Painter, who fumbled when he was sacked by James Harrison on his second series.
Troy Polamalu picked up the fumble and ran 16 yards for a score.
Painter then drove the Colts 80 yards for the tying score before Pittsburgh hit a game-winning field goal at the gun.
Depending on Collins' status, Painter could be the only healthy quarterback on the roster when they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.
The Colts have a couple of days off to get ready for their second prime-time appearance in eight days. The Colts fell to 0-and-3 with their loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday night.
The Bucs are 2-1 following Sunday's 16-13 win over division-rival Atlanta.
The Colts will return to practice on Thursday afternoon. Colts Owner Jim Irsay says there is a chance Peyton Manning will return before the end of the season.
Irsay spoke at the Super Bowl donor kickoff breakfast Monday morning and said that the team is looking at Manning returning for the 2012 season.
Irsay clarified his statement via twitter later in the morning, saying that Manning will remain on the active roster and that the team is evaluating his rehabilitation "month by month".
Manning is recovering from neck surgery earlier this month.
It was the third surgical procedure on his neck in 19 months.
