(SAN DIEGO, CA) - Mat Latos and two relievers combined on a two-hit shutout as the San Diego Padres blanked the Chicago Cubs 2-0.
The game was scoreless until the sixth when Will Venable hit a solo home run off Chicago Starter Casey Coleman.
Cameron Maybin would add an RBI double later in the sixth.
Latos went seven innings, allowing two hits while striking out nine and walking one to improve to 9-14.
Chad Qualls and heath bell pitched one perfect inning of relief each with bell picking up his 43rd save.
Coleman took the loss to fall to 3-9.
