(RICHMOND, VA) - NASCAR’s Sprint Cup teams don’t have much time to get ready for Saturday night’s race at Richmond International Raceway.
After last weekend's race in Atlanta was pushed to Tuesday due to rain, the cars take to the track in Richmond for practice and qualifying on Friday.
Nine drivers have already locked up spots in the chase for the Sprint Cup heading into the weekend.
Five-time defending series champion Jimmie Johnson is the points leader although Kyle Busch would have the number-one spot if the chase started today thanks to his four wins this season.
Both Kyle Busch and his brother Kurt are in the Chase along with Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman and Brad Keselowski.
Dale Earnhardt Junior is currently ninth in points and can clinch a spot in the chase for the sprint cup with a finish of 20th or better.
Tony Stewart is in the tenth and final spot for the chase.
A finish of 18th or better on Saturday night will clinch a postseason berth for the Columbus resident.
Keselowski has clinched no worse than the top wild card berth although he could still get past Earnhardt and Stewart in points.
Denny Hamlin currently has the second wild card although Paul Menard, Marcos Ambrose and David Ragan still have a chance to make their way into the chase with a win on Saturday.
