(CLEVELAND, OH) - It wasn’t pretty, but Justin Verlander got his 22nd win of the season as the Detroit Tigers outlasted the Cleveland Indians 8-6.
Verlander gave up three hits in his six innings of work, but two of those were two-run homers by Cleveland first baseman Shelley Duncan.
Detroit trailed 4-2 in the seventh when Miguel Cabrera hit an RBI single and Victor Martinez followed with a grand slam off Indians reliever Tony Sipp.
With the win, the Tigers complete a three-game series sweep and extend their winning streak to five games.
Verlander improves to 22-5 while Cleveland starter Justin Masterson was saddled with the loss, falling to 11-9.
