(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - A public memorial service to celebrate the life of Izod IndyCar Series Driver Dan Wheldon will be held Sunday, October 23rd at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Wheldon was killed Sunday in a multi-car crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Wheldon was a two-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 and is survived by his wife, Susie, and two young sons.
IndyCar announced Tuesday that a two-day test of the new 2012 Dallara IndyCar prototype at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has been cancelled.
Wheldon had done most of the testing on the 2012 car.
Four-time series champion Dario Franchitti was scheduled to drive the car today and Thursday at the one and a half-mile oval.
Franchitti and Wheldon were friends and former teammates.
Target Chip Ganassi Racing Managing Director Mike Hull says that IndyCar made the decision on its own and that the Ganassi Team will test the new car later this year.
Dallara announced Tuesday that it will name the 2012 chassis after Wheldon.
