(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Two of the last links to Tony George’s regime with IndyCar reportedly have been removed.
Speed TV reported on its website late Tuesday night that President of Competition Brian Barnhart is being removed from Race Control for Izod IndyCar Series races and that Commercial Division President Terry Angstadt has been replaced.
According to the report, Barnhart will be offered to stay as President of Operations, but he will no longer serve as Chief Steward during races.
Barnhart has been the center of controversy for a lack of consistency in applying on-track penalties during the 2011.
He drew the ire of drivers in August when he called for a restart late in the race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway while it was still raining, leading to a multi-car crash at the start-finish line.
Angstadt will be replaced by Mark Koretzky, who has been IndyCar's director of business development. Both Barnhart and Angstadt assumed their positions in March of 2007.
George founded what was then known as the Indy Racing League in 1995 and was ousted as Chief Executive Officer of Hulman and Company and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation in June of 2009.
There has been no official announcement, but current IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard had indicated a few weeks ago that major changes in the organization were forthcoming.
