(FT. WORTH, TX) - Tony Stewart beat Carl Edwards to the checkered flag to win Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Race at Texas Motor Speedway.
With the win, Stewart cuts Edwards' lead in the Chase for the Sprint Cup to just three points with two races remaining.
The Columbus, Indiana resident led a race-high 173 laps to claim the maximum 48 points.
Despite his huge advantage in laps led, Stewart did not take the lead for good until Jeff Burton ran out of gas with just over four laps remaining and had to pit.
After going winless in the first 26 races, Stewart has won four of the eight chase races so far.
Kasey Kahne was third with Matt Kenseth and pole-sitter Greg Biffle rounding out the top five.
The next-to-last race of the season takes place this Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway.
