(UNDATED) - In men’s college basketball, Ronald Nored and Andrew Smith scored 13 points apiece as the Butler Bulldogs defeated the Green Bay Phoenix 53-49 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Kameron Woods added ten points and Roosevelt Jones grabbed twelve rebounds for the Bulldogs. Alec Brown was the only Green Bay player to reach double figures, finishing with 13 points as the Phoenix fall to 6-and-7, 2-and-1 in Horizon League play.
Butler evens both its overall record at 7-and-7 and its Horizon League mark at 1-and-1.
The bulldogs host the Milwaukee Panthers on Saturday afternoon.
Purple Aces Top Salukis
The Evansville Purple Aces won their Missouri Valley Conference opener, defeating the Southern Illinois Salukis 78-60 at the Ford Center.
Colt Ryan led the Aces with 25 points with Denver Holmes and Kenny Harris adding eleven points each. Mamadou Seck led the Salukis with 20 points with Kandal Brown-Surles scoring 13 as Southern Illinois loses its fourth game in a row to drop to 3-and-9 overall.
The Aces improve to 6-and-5 as they will hit the road to take on the Northern Iowa Panthers on Sunday night.
Milwaukee Tops Valpo
Kaylon Williams hit a three-pointer with 49 seconds remaining to help the Milwaukee Panthers edge the Valparaiso Crusaders 57-55.
Tony Meier led the Panthers with 17 points with James Haarsma finishing with twelve points and Williams adding ten as the Panthers improve to 10-and-4, 3-and-0 in the Horizon League. Williams' three gave Milwaukee the lead for good at 55-53.
Ryan Broekhoff led the Crusaders with 18 points and twelve rebounds. Kevin Van Wijk finished with 15 points and Erik Buggs added twelve as Valpo falls to 8-and-6, 1-and-1 in the conference.
The crusaders host Green Bay on Saturday.
Summit League Play Continues
There are a pair of Summit League games on tonight's schedule. The IUPUI Jaguars take on the Leathernecks of Western Illinois at the Jungle in Indianapolis.
The Jags are riding a four-game winning streak but are still looking for their first conference victory, standing 0-and-2 in the Summit. Western Illinois has won two straight and is 1-and-1 in league play.
The IPFW Mastodons' road trip continues at North Dakota State. The Dons are 7-and-5, 1-and-2 in the conference after losing at South Dakota State on Wednesday night. The Bison are 5-and-0 at home this season, 9-and-3 overall and 2-and-1 in Summit League play.
