Last updated on Monday, February 20, 2012

(DAYTONA, FL) - Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle gave Roush Fenway Racing a clean sweep of the front row for Sunday’s Daytona 500.

Edwards took the pole for the NASCAR Sprint Cup season opener with a qualifying lap of 194.783 miles per hour.

Biffle was second-quick with a lap of 194.087.

Their positions are set while the remaining 41 spots in the field will be determined by Thursday's twin 150-mile qualifying races.

The top 35 in 2011 owners' points are already locked into the field with defending champion Trevor Bayne, Laporte native Tony Raines, South Bend's David Stremme and past Sprint Cup Champion Terry Labonte also claiming starting berths.

Bayne, Raines and Stremme based on their qualifying speeds with Labonte getting the past champion's provisional.

Among other notables, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was third-quick in qualifying, Jeff Gordon was sixth, Tony Stewart was tenth, Jimmie Johnson was twelfth, Paul Menard was 14th, Ryan Newman was 17th and Danica Patrick was 30th.

All are locked into the field based on last year's owners' points, but their starting positions won't be known until Thursday's duels.
