(INDIANAPOLIS) - Barring something unforeseen, the Andrew Luck era with the Indianapolis Colts will begin Thursday night with the first round of the NFL draft.
The Colts have the number one overall pick in the draft and several sources have confirmed that Stanford's star quarterback will be their choice over Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III. Griffin is expected to go to Washington with the second pick.
Luck went 31-and-7 as a starter with the Cardinals. He more than likely will surpass that loss total in 2012 in Indianapolis.
The team has plenty to replace from last year's 2-and-14 team. Gone from the offense are pillars like Jeff Saturday, Joseph Addai, Dallas Clark and Pierre Garcon. Also gone is the man Luck will replace as four-time league MVP Peyton Manning was released last month and signed with the Denver Broncos.
The Colts also have plenty of work to do on the defensive side of the ball, where captains Gary Brackett and Melvin Bullitt have been released and Philip Wheeler left via free agency.
There will be plenty of opportunities to surround Luck with new talent this coming weekend as the Colts have a total of ten pick over the seven rounds of the draft.
