Colts Take Luck First Overall, Two Irish Players Drafted

(New York, NY) - There were no surprises for the Indianapolis Colts on Day One of the NFL draft.

The Colts took Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the number-one overall pick.

He went 31-7 as a starter in his three seasons with the Cardinal.

Luck has a tough act to follow as he replaces four-time league MVP Peyton Manning as quarterback of the Colts.

Rounds two and three of the draft take place tonight at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

The Colts own the number two pick in the second round, number 34 overall, and the first pick in round three, number 64 overall.

A pair of Notre Dame players were taken in the first round.

Wide receiver Michael Floyd was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the 13th overall pick.

Floyd was the second receiver taken in the draft with Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon going fifth to Jacksonville.

Floyd set a Notre Dame record with 95 receptions in 2011 with a career-high 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns.

He holds Fighting Irish career records for receptions, receiving yards, touchdown receptions, receiving yards per game and 100-yard receiving games.

It is the earliest a Notre Dame player has gone in the draft since Rick Mirer and Jerome Bettis were top-ten picks in 1993.

Safety Harrison Smith went with the 29th pick to the Minnesota Vikings.

Smith started all 13 games last season for the Irish, recording 90 tackles, a forced fumble and ten passes defended.
