(INDIANAPOLIS) - The new IZOD IndyCar Series Cars will be on the oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today for an open test.
Each team will be limited to one car to test.
Today's session was originally scheduled to be a manufacturer's test, but Dallara managed to produce enough oval bodywork kits to allow multiple cars to test.
The Indianapolis 500 on May 27th is the first oval on this year's IndyCar schedule.
Rookies will not participate in today's test. The first-year drivers will get their first crack at the Speedway on May tenth when the Rookie Orientation Program begins.
Among the drivers scheduled to participate in today's practice are former 500 winners Helio Castroneves and Scott Dixon as well as Tony Kanaan, Marco Andretti, JR Hildebrand, Mike Conway, Justin Wilson, Ed Carpenter and Takuma Sato.
The IndyCar series is off until next weekend when they will race through the streets of Long Beach, California.
There will be one more road course event in Sao Paulo, Brazil on April 29th before the IndyCar Series returns to Indianapolis with the Speedway opening for veteran practice on May 12th.
