(INDIANAPOLIS) - Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird has been named the NBA’s Executive of the Year.
Bird received twelve of the 32 first place votes cast by a panel of team executives to outdistance San Antonio's R.C. Buford.
Bird is responsible for the permanent hiring of head coach Frank Vogel during the offseason, the signing of free agent forward David West and the trade deadline deal that brought Leandro Barbosa to Indiana.
The Pacers finished with the league's fifth-best record during the regular season and earned the number three seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Bird becomes the first person in NBA history to be named Most Valuable Player, Coach of the Year and Executive of the Year during his career.
