(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Firestone Indy Lights cars will practice and qualify today for tomorrow’s Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The IZOD IndyCar Series cars will be on the track before the Freedom 100 for tomorrow's Carb Day practice session. That will be the final track time for the 33 cars and drivers before Sunday's Indianapolis 500.
Friday's track activity also includes the annual pit stop competition.
Dallara has made a modification to the underwing supports of the cars that will compete in Sunday's 500. The chassis manufacturer cut three slots in the supports to lessen lateral stiffness while maintaining vertical stiffness.
The goal of the changes is to lessen the possibility of the car lifting slightly off the race track following wall contact. Three of the five crashes during practice last week led to the car lifting off the track. The modifications will be in place for tomorrow's Carb Day practice.
