(INDIANAPOLIS) - The IU Athletics Tailgate Tour made its first stop Monday night on a six city tour.
Fans got a chance to mingle with some of the school's coaches at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, including Men's Basketball Coach Tom Crean and Football Coach Kevin Wilson.
The Tour allows Hoosier fans to support IU Athletics and learn about the success of student-athletes both on and off the field.
IU Mens Basketball Coach Tom Crean says he can relate to fans and supporters of the program. "I understand what it's like to be on the other end when you get a chance to meet somebody or your kids get a chance to meet them. I grew up somebody that collected autographs and baseball cards and basketball cards, so I enjoy all that."
Crean also noted that there is excitement among the fans. "I don't think there's anyway we get to the point that we're at with building our team without a lot of excitement. I think the fact that people went through all of this with us for the most part, they see the benefits of how hard they cheered and supported and stayed with the program."
IU Football Coach Kevin Wilson says this time of year is good for a football coach. "We're in a window right now where you're recruiting next year, you just finished up the semester, we basically got everyone sent home for a bout a four week break, we'll come back the first of June for summer school and lifting session, so as a coach this is one of the few times you can catch your breath, catch up and get with the family."
The tour continues next week in Chicago, then makes stops in Ft. Wayne, Evansville, Jeffersonville and finishes at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington on August 9th.
