(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Rookie Josef Newgarden continues to impress at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Newgarden topped Monday's speed chart with a quick lap of 222.486 miles an hour.
Newgarden survived a wild Happy Hour with multiple drivers claiming the top speed, albeit briefly. The rookie driver for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing also had the fast lap of the day on Saturday and Monday's speed is the quickest for the month so far.
Andretti Autosport teammates Ryan Hunter-Reay and Marco Andretti were second and third-quick with Scott Dixon and Sebastian Saavedra rounding out the top five.
29 drivers practiced on Monday and the month so far has been incident-free. There was a caution at the start of Happy Hour as smoke was spotted at the back of Graham Rahal's car.
Practice continues today from noon to six o'clock Eastern Daylight Time.
