(Charlotte, NC) - Indiana Pacers associate head coach Brian Shaw will reportedly interview for the vacant head coach’s job with the Charlotte Bobcats on Thursday.
ESPN reported Tuesday that the Bobcats have narrowed their list of candidates to three - Shaw, former Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan and Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Quin Snyder. All three have gone through initial interviews with Bobcats executives Rod Higgins and Rich Cho and will meet with team owner Michael Jordan in the coming days.
Shaw will be the first to interview with Jordan. He was a candidate to succeed Phil Jackson as head coach of the Lakers last season but was passed over in favor of Mike Brown. He was quickly hired by Frank Vogel as Indiana's top assistant last summer.
Shaw has also been mentioned as a possible successor to Stan Van Gundy in Orlando. The 70-year-old Sloan, who played collegiality at the University of Evansville before embarking on a long playing career with the Chicago Bulls, resigned last season in the middle of his 23rd year with the Jazz.
Snyder played collegiality at Duke before spending four years as an assistant to Mike Krzyzewski with the Blue Devils. He spent seven years as head coach at the University of Missouri, resigning amid an NCAA investigation in 2006 that ultimately unveiled a few minor rules violations.
