(Indianapolis, IN) - Summer vacation is almost over for the Indianapolis Colts.
The team's rookies will report for some preliminary work at the Colts' westside Indianapolis headquarters on Wednesday with the full team reporting for training camp at Anderson University on Saturday.
With the signing of quarterback Andrew Luck last week, the Colts are still negotiating with two of their draft picks - second round selection Coby Fleener and third round pick Dwayne Allen. Both Fleener and Allen play tight end.
The team will have two weeks to prepare for the preseason opener against the St. Louis Rams August 12th at Lucas Oil Stadium
Luck is expected to get the majority of the reps in practice as the number-one overall choice out of Stanford replaces four-time league M-V-P Peyton Manning at quarterback. Manning missed all of last season with a neck injury as the Colts fell from a team that made the playoffs nine-consecutive years to a 2-and-14 squad that finished tied with the Rams for the worst record in the league. Manning was released in March and signed with the Denver Broncos.
The Colts announced a trade on Sunday, acquiring cornerback DJ Johnson from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for defensive tackle Ollie Ogbu. The deal still needs to be finalized pending the completion of physicals.
Johnson spent last season on the Eagles' practice squad after playing a total of ten games with the New York Giants during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Ogbu was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent one year ago and spent the entire 2011 campaign on the practice squad.
