(Pittsburgh, PA) - Garrett Jones’ R-B-I double in the sixth inning was the difference as the Pittsburgh Pirates edged the Chicago Cubs 3-2 to avoid a three-game series sweep at PNC Park.
Rookie Anthony Rizzo put the Cubs on the board in the top of the first with a solo home run off Pirates starter Kevin Correia.
Neil Walker returned the favor in the bottom of the first, tagging a Ryan Dempster pitch to tie the game at one.
Rizzo made it 2-1 Cubs with an R-B-I single in the third, but Pittsburgh's Mike McKenry tied the game in the fifth with another solo homer off Dempster.
That set up Jones' eventual game winner in the next inning.
Correia went six innings to get the win and improves to 8-6 while Dempster falls to 5-5.
