(UNDATED) - The preseason USA Today college football coaches poll was released on Thursday with Notre Dame starting the season at number 24.
The Fighting Irish are coming off an 8-5 season and a loss to Florida State in the Champs Sports Bowl.
Notre Dame opens the season September first when they take on Navy in Dublin, Ireland.
The Irish will be without starting quarterback Tommy Rees against the Midshipmen.
Rees and linebacker Carlo Calabrese were suspended for the opener after being arrested following an incident outside an off-campus party in March.
LSU opens the season ranked number one followed by defending national champion Alabama.
