(South Bend, IN) - Notre Dame has lost cornerback Lo Wood for the season with an Achilles tendon injury.
Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly says Wood ruptured the Achilles during practice on Monday. The junior is scheduled to undergo surgery today and is not expected to return until spring practice next year.
Wood's injury is a blow to a Notre Dame secondary which has already lost Harrison Smith and Robert Blanton to the NFL.
Bennett Jackson is expected to be one starter at corner with KeiVarae Russell, Josh Atkinson, Jalen Brown and Elijah Shumate expected to compete for Wood's spot in the starting lineup.
Former Notre Dame assistant coach Corwin Brown received a suspended four-year sentence yesterday for a domestic dispute involving his wife one year ago.
Brown pleaded guilty but mentally ill to charges of criminal confinement and domestic battery as part of a plea agreement. The 42-year-old Brown stuck his wife, Melissa, and held her hostage during a seven-hour standoff with police at Brown's home in Granger, Indiana.
Brown played eight seasons in the NFL and his relatives have speculated that brain trauma suffered during his days as a defensive back may have played a role in the standoff.
Brown was the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame from 2007 through 2009 and spent 2010 as defensive backs coach for the New England Patriots.
