(Chicago, IL) - Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera homered in the fifth inning to power the Detroit Tigers past the Chicago White Sox 5-3, cutting the Sox’ lead in the AL Central to two games.
Chicago took a 2-0 lead on solo homers by Dewayne Wise in the first and Gordon Beckham in the third off Detroit starter Doug Fister.
Those were the only hits Fister allowed in his seven innings of work.
Jackson tied the game with his two-run shot off Chicago starter Jake Peavy with Cabrera's solo homer off Peavy one batter later putting the Tigers ahead to stay.
Alex Avila and Andy Dirks added RBI singles in the eighth for Detroit with Alejandro De Aza getting one of those runs back with a single in the bottom of the eighth.
Fister gets the win to improve to 9-8 while Peavy falls to 10-11.
