(Chicago, IL) - Johnny Cueto threw six shutout innings as Cincinnati erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh inning en route to a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
The Reds sweep the three-game series and are the first team in the Majors to clinch a playoff berth.
Cueto and Cubs starter Jason Berken dueled for six innings with Cueto giving up five hits and Berken just two.
The Reds did their damage off reliever Manny Corpas in the seventh with Didi Gregorius, pinch-hitter Joey Votto and Xavier Paul hitting consecutive RBI singles before Henry Rodriguez capped the big inning with a two-run double.
Anthony Rizzo drove in a pair of runs and Wellington Castillo hit a solo home run as Chicago cut the lead to two late.
Cueto improves to 18-and-9 while Corpas falls to 0-2.
The Reds lock up no worse than a Wild Card berth while dropping their magic number for clinching the NL Central title to two.
