(St. Louis, MO) - Tyler Moore hit a two run bloop single in the eighth inning to give the Washington Nationals a 3-to-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals and an early 1-0 lead in the NLDS.
The Cardinals were limited to three hits at Busch Stadium but had plenty of base runners throughout the game, including a bases loaded opportunity in the seventh inning and a wild, seven walk start by Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez.
The Cardinals first run came on a wild pitch to Yadier Molina in the second inning by Gonzalez, who limited the damage to two runs during his five innings pitched.
John Jay gave the defending champs a one run lead later in the second with a sacrifice fly that scored Daniel Descalso.
Adam Wainwright and two relievers held the Nationals in check until the eighth inning, when Moore hit a two out single that scored Michael Morse and Ian Desmond to give Washington a 3-2 lead.
Brownsburg's Drew Storen pitched a perfect ninth to close it out for the Nationals, who won their first playoff game since moving from Montreal in 2005.
Game two of the best-of-five NLDS is this afternoon at Busch Stadium. Jaime Garcia throws the first pitch for St. Louis at 4:37.
