(West Lafayette, IN) - Darrell Hazel of Kent State University has reportedly accepted an offer to become the new head football coach at Purdue University.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that Hazel will meet with his former team this morning before replacing Danny Hope, who spent four years with the Boilermakers before his termination after a 6-6 regular season.
Hazel was 16-9 in two seasons with Kent State and was named Mid American Conference Coach of the Year before losing the conference championship game to Northern Illinois last weekend.
The Huskies earned an invite to the B-C-S Orange Bowl with their 44-to-37 win over the Golden Flashes, relegating Kent State to the GoDaddy.com Bowl against Arkansas State.
Purdue was invited to the Heart of Dallas Bowl to play the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
