(MITCHELL) - Mitchell High School golfer Chad Phillips will spend his holiday golfing.
Phillips has been invited to take part in the All State Sugar Bowl Tommy Moore Memorial Junior Golf Championship held at historic Lakewood Golf Course in Louisiana.
Phillips, who is committed to play at Purdue next year, earned an exemption to the event after he won the Indiana Junior State Tournament this summer.
He received an email informing him he had been accepted to play in the prestigious tournament and didn't waste any time responding.
The event is slated for Dec. 28 and 29, but what makes the tournament and the trip even more special is Phillips turns 18 years old the day before the event so he will be spending his birthday in New Orleans.
Chad will not be traveling alone, his mother Janet is also making the trip.
