(Indianapolis, IN) - The thirteenth-ranked Butler Bulldogs played lock down defense in winning their first Atlantic-Ten home game, a 62-47 victory over the Richmond Spiders at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Spiders entered last night's contest averaging 71 points per game, but were limited to 33 percent shooting from the field in scoring a season low 47 points.
The Bulldogs played without their top scorer, Rotnei Clark, who will also miss Saturday's nationally televised contest against Gonzaga with a severely sprained neck.
Roosevelt Jones paced Butler with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Andrew Smith had 15 points and seven boards for the Bulldogs.
Richmond falls to 11-7 overall, 1-2 in the Atlantic-10, and host the Charlotte 49rs Saturday.
Butler improves to 15-2 overall, 3-0 in the conference, and host the number-eight Gonzaga Bulldogs Saturday night.
