(Evansville, IN) - The Evansville Aces kept pace with the Missouri Valley Conference frontrunners by grinding out a 54-51 overtime win over the Northern Iowa Panthers at Ford Center in Evansville.
Ned Cox sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer for the Aces that tied it at 47-47 with 30 seconds to go in regulation.
Cox pushed the Evansville lead to four by hitting a jumper with 3:33 left to play in overtime. The teams were scoreless for the next two and-a-half minutes until Deon Mitchell layed it in for the Panthers, cutting the Aces lead to two.
Colt Ryan responded with a jumper that gave Evansville a 53-49 lead and eventually their seventh consecutive home win.
Ryan led all scorers with 23 points and nine assists and Cox chipped in nine points for the Aces.
Marc Sonnen had 11 points in a balanced scoring effort for the Panthers that included eight of the nine active players cracking the scoring column.
Northern Iowa is 11-11 overall, 4-6 in the MVC, and host Wichita State Saturday at McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Evansville is 13-9 overall, 6-4 in the conference, and play at the Missouri State Bears Saturday afternoon.
