(Wichita, KS) - The unranked Indiana State Sycamores ended the number-14 Wichita State Shockers’ home winning streak with a 68-55 upset win at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas. .
It's the first home loss for the Shockers in 19 games, a streak that dates back to late December of 2011.
Sycamores coach, Greg Lansing, smothered the Wichita State offense by making the rare switch to a zone defense, a move that held the opposition to 27 percent shooting from the field.
Indiana State jumped out to a 39-28 lead at the break by closing out the first half with a 17-3 run.
Wichita State closed within two points in the second half, but the Sycamores were able to grind out the last seven minutes to preserve their first win over a top-25 team in five tries this season.
Manny Arop led all scorers with 17 points and six rebounds and Jake Odum and Devonte Brown each chipped in ten points for the Sycamores.
Cleanthony Early had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Shockers, who have a half game lead over the number-17 Creighton Blue Jays for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference and a one game lead over Indiana State.
The Shockers are 19-3 overall, 8-2 in the MVC, and travel to the Northern Iowa Panthers Saturday.
Indiana State is 17-3 overall, 7-3 in the conference, and play at the Drake Bulldogs Saturday evening.
