(Indianapolis, IN) - The number-10 Butler Bulldogs lost at Hinkle Fieldhouse for the first time in 13 games, a 71-67 stunner against the Charlotte 49rs last night.
The Bulldogs were never in command of the game and limped into halftime trailing the visitors 29-27.
After Charlotte went on a 7-1 run late in the game, Rotnei Clarke was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all of the ensuing free throws.
Clarke hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds to play in cutting the 49rs lead to 68-67, but the rally fell short when Butler turned the ball over on an inbounds pass during the closing seconds.
Pierra Henry had 17 points for Charlotte and Clarke led all scorers with 18 points for the Bulldogs.
Charlotte is 18-6 overall, 6-4 in the Atlantic-10, and play Saturday at the Saint Louis Billikens.
The Bulldogs slip to 20-5 overall, 7-3 in the conference, and play Saturday afternoon at the Fordham Rams.
